Luxury adventure travel company announces special tour to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
La Jolla, California (PRWEB) February 26, 2014
Classic Journeys, the luxury adventure travel company, announced today a special commemorative tour in honor of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, the historic first day of the Allied Invasion of Normandy in World War II.
Classic Journeys is known for offering the most immersive, original, and interesting journeys around the world that focus on delivering deep cultural understanding and authentic experiences to their travelers. A hallmark is that only local guides lead each tour and make a point to highlight the significant historical landmarks and personal connections in each area they travel. Their Normandy and Brittany Cultural Walking Adventure leads travelers through explorations in Deauville and Bayeux, to the Normandy beaches to visit Arromanches and Pointe du Hoc, and a visit to the American Cemetery.
Now, in honor of one of the most important days in American military history, Classic Journeys will offer an extension on its Normandy and Brittany tour that will take travelers literally along the same journey American soldiers traveled on their way to the Normandy beaches. The four-day, three-night extension begins in London, visiting the Churchill War Rooms. It continues on to Windsor with a visit to the HMS Belfast, the warship that provided artillery cover for the Allied troops landing in Normandy. Travelers will overnight in Portsmouth, where they’ll visit the gathering place for the Allied armada and finally make the channel crossing to France. There, they will proceed as normal with the Normandy and Brittany itinerary.
“For years, the Normandy and Brittany tour has been one of our most popular, and I think that is largely due to the in-depth knowledge and insider look we’ve been able to offer guests into a region that is so significant to our own American history,” said Edward Piegza, president and founder of Classic Journeys.
“Our guides are experts in World War II and able to translate events and feelings of that historic day in a rare way. With the 70th anniversary of D-Day upon us, we knew that, with all of our resources, we had something special to offer. We knew that we could provide an experience that would commemorate this momentous day in a way that would make it come alive for our travelers— help them see, feel, and experience first- hand some of the places that our soldiers did 70 years ago. We’re excited and honored to be able to offer such a special look at history through this trip.”
The D-Day Commemoration tour will have several departures throughout the year, beginning in May. Travel rates start at $2,998, based on two people sharing a two-bedded room. For more information about this tour, please visit: http://www.classicjourneys.com/dday/.
